About Me

Pam Smith Family Historian
Pam Smith

I am a member of AGRA, the UK Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives. My genealogical education has developed from study with WEA Workers' Educational Association and the IHGS, Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, Canterbury. My previous role was a Family History Tutor for Leeds City College, WEA and Your Fair Ladies where I delivered a wide variety of courses for adult learners.

To keep involved and up to date with local and family history, I belong to:

As a member of the Guild of One Name Studies I am researching my family surname internationally - its variants, origins and geographical distribution. I have used genetic genealogy testing to trace my patrilinealY-DNA and matrilineal mtDNA lines. I understand the geography of deeper ancestry and where our forebears came from as they tracked their way into the UK many centuries ago.

Based, in Scampston, I am ideally placed to research the history of families and houses in the East Riding of Yorkshire and across the county border into North Yorkshire. My extensive local knowledge gives me familiarity within the area together with an awareness of the location of relevant records.

I look forward to meeting you.

“To be in correspondence with Pam, is a delightful experience. At the height of her researches, e-mails were almost a daily experience, in fact something worth anticipating, for I never knew what she would come up with next.”
